Regaining Strength In The Prostate

Regaining strength in the prostate starts with maintaining and adhering to a good healthy lifestyle. Here are some tips on how to regain strength after being treated for your prostate cancer.

After your procedure, you will need time to heal. Allow your surgery to heal three to four weeks before attempting anything strenuous. During this time try to remain patient, and remember that this will be an ongoing battle for a few months and possibly years. Rehabilitation of any muscle is similar to a sports injury. Proper treatment and conditioning may potentially help increase the effectiveness of your recovery.

Next would be a change of diet. Be sure you are digesting the nutrients necessary for a strong healthy prostate. According to Prostate Cancer Foundation, certain diets help prevent oxidation and inflammation of the prostate. Foods that are rich in antioxidants containing vitamin C, such as citrus fruits, or green vegetables like broccoli can help calm the prostate. Add soy foods to your diet regimen, soy produces estrogen-like compounds that help to regain strength within the prostate. Consume a wide variety of colorful low sugar fruits and vegetables.

Also, speak to your doctor about adding vitamin D to your diet for prostate health. Eliminate caffeine, alcohol and soda beverages as they may produce bladder irritation. Your urine should be a pale clear to yellowish color. Be sure to completely empty your bladder, clearing your system from waste.

Lastly, try getting back into exercising slowly, exercising for at least 30 minutes per day. Workout for at least four days out of the week helps to rebuild build muscle, supports blood flow, and increases metabolism. Regain strength in the prostate by practicing good technique in performing pelvic floor muscle exercises, also known as the Kegel exercises.

After one month, it is recommended that you try to resume sexual activity. Stimulation of the nerves is a healthy step in the journey back to potency. Be aware that you can still experience an orgasm and sensual stimulation without full erections. Medication such as Viagra is available to help aid in sexual activity if necessary. Be sure to speak with your doctor of any health concern you may have on your journey back to regaining a healthy prostate.
